Anti-government forces have reportedly mounted tanks and guns throughout the city center, as forces loyal to Kadafi surround the city, according to reports Sunday, February 27.
The capital city is a Kadafi stronghold. He has reportedly blocked entrance to the city with tanks and cleared the streets of protesters.
Kadafi appears to be losing control of Sabratha, one of his strongholds. People fleeing the town have reported sporadic gunfire as anti-government sentiment spreads

Libya's third-largest city is also in the hands of anti-government forces.
The opposition claimed control of Zuwarah, about 30 miles from the border with Tunisia, after local army units sided with the protesters and police fled.
The eastern city was one of the first to be controlled by anti-government forces.
